Start with one job
Before drawing a screen, finish this sentence: the person here is trying to… Keep it concrete. A booking page helps someone choose a time. A dashboard helps someone understand what needs attention. When the job is clear, it becomes easier to decide what belongs on the screen.
Give attention a direction
Use size, position and spacing to make a clear order. One primary action usually deserves more emphasis than the supporting actions around it. If everything is equally bold, the visitor has to create the hierarchy for you.
Design the quiet moments
Empty lists, waiting states and errors are part of the experience. Explain what happened, what the person can do next and whether their work is safe. A good empty state can teach a feature without adding a separate tutorial.
Test the path, not just the picture
Ask someone to complete the main task with a prototype. Watch where they pause. Avoid explaining the interface while they use it. Those pauses give you more useful direction than asking whether the screen looks nice.
